We thank Glodny and Barton for their interpretation of our paper and the accompanying editorial. A few important issues were raised which we would like to address. We agree with the authors regarding the resilience of the internal mammary artery (IMA) and its intrinsic resistance against atherosclerosis. This has been ascribed to greater endothelium-dependent nitric oxide (NO) production/availability of this conduit. Atherosclerotic vascular disease does occur
