Reduction of Blood Pressure by Puromycin Infused Selectively into the Ischaemic Kidney in Experimental Renal Hypertension

G. J. Macdonald and R. B. Blacket

From the University of New South Wales School of Medicine, Prince Henry Hospital, N.S.W., Australia

Authors' Synopsis: In rats made hypertensive by unilateral renal artery constriction, blood pressure could be reduced to normal levels or below by infusion, into the aorta near the origin of the renal arteries, of a solution of puromycin, an inhibitor of protein synthesis. Identical infusions into normal rats, or infusions into hypertensive rats below the origin of the renal arteries, produced no such effect.
