Rules for Spotlight Issues

As indicated in the introduction to this Spotlight Issue by Burkert Pieske, Steven R. Houser, Gerd Hasenfuss and Donald Bers, "Sodium and the Heart – a Hidden Key Factor in Cardiac Regulation", the origin of this issue was the meeting organised by the Guest Editors at Schloss Waldeck, Germany, in May 2002.

We would like to emphasise that this Spotlight issue is not like the normal Proceedings of a Symposium. The usual rules for Spotlight Issues were observed, i.e. the Guest Editors identified topics and authors for invited Review Articles, and Cardiovascular Research encouraged authors to submit original contributions. For the most part, the authors of theses original contributions did not attend the meeting. All manuscripts, including invited Review Articles, were submitted to the normal peer review process handled by the editorial team of Cardiovascular Research. In fact, five manuscripts were rejected.
