Effect of Large Doses of Warfarin Sodium on Haemostasis and on ADP-induced Platelet Aggregation in vivo in the Rat
A Survey of Experimental Thrombosis and Coumarin Anticoagulant Therapy*
From the Department of Pathology, Medical College of Georgia, Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital, Augusta, Georgia, U.S.A.
Authors' Synopsis: Large doses of warfarin that induced prothrombin levels considered unsafe for man significantly reduced ADP aggregation of platelets in vivo in the rat. The effectiveness of the platelet plug in haemostasis was also severely impaired. The possible mechanisms for this effect are discussed. A survey of the literature of the effect of coumarin therapy on experimental thrombosis is given.
