Authors' Synopsis: A system for maintaining the patency of catheters during intra-arterial recording of blood pressure is described. The apparatus contains a hydraulic resistance which allows a low flow of heparin saline to be maintained during recording without affecting the frequency response of the transducer, and without impairing the accuracy of the pressure recording.
